The VoLIE BID is in the process of registering a limited company as promised in the Business Improvement Plan approved earlier this year. Directors are listed on this site. We are currently negotiating with companies to begin to erect new sign boards at the entrance to the Estate and to renew and update the “Map Board” opposite Strathleven House. We are also at an advanced stage in procuring the CCTV capital equipment the addition of which will greatly increase our capacity to deter and prevent crime.
We are realists however. Crime may still occur. We want to be clear from the outset however we WILL prosecute in all cases where evidence is sufficient to indicate a reasonable prospect of conviction. The VoLIE BID will not be soft on crime or on other illegal activity, – for example encampment and fly-tipping.
The BID Group has also had a very positive meeting with the local Inspector at the Police Scotland Office in Dumbarton. We will work closely with the local police to both deter and pursue criminal activity anytime it occurs on the Estate.
Those Vacant Sites
As businesses will be aware, West Dunbartonshire Council have acquired the vacant development sites within the Estate from Scottish Enterprise. We believe that this is a positive move. It is likely that the council will take a more proactive role in marketing and promoting the sites for new investors and business occupiers.
As businesses will be aware West Dunbartonshire Council have applied for planning permission to build 13 new workshops on the vacant site. If the application is approved construction work will begin in march 2015 and it is hoped that the first tenants will begin moving in in the autumn of 2015. This is a real vote of confidence in the future of the Estate and is the first “new build” on the site for many years. We look forward to seeing the number of businesses based here increase as a result of this development.
